Cars overflowed the parking lot at the new Northside Shopping Center on this opening day in 1958.
The Hanes High School band played for the ribbon-cutting, and Dave Wright was master of ceremonies.
Miss Winston-Salem and Miss North Carolina were present for the ceremonies, as were thousands of shoppers who came looking for bargains and prizes.
The contractor for the shopping center was Fowler Jones Construction Company, and the architect was Fred W. Butner.
