June 21: Happy Birthday! Geraldine Mackie Troutman

Geraldine Mackie was born on this day in 1920, in Yadkinville, to Martin Monroe and Verna Branon Mackie.

Geraldine attended school in Yadkin County, then came to Winston-Salem to study business at Draughon Business  College.

She worked in the office at Sears, Roebuck Company, before she was hired as a teller at Wachovia Bank and Trust Company.  She was one of the first female tellers at the bank.

Geraldine was a member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years.

Geraldine was an accomplished seamstress, making many of her own clothes.  She also helped others with their sewing projects.

She was married to Ray Troutman.

Geraldine passed away in 2003.
