October 24,1914: Odd Fellows Announce Building

The International Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) announced on this day in 1914 that they will build on Trade Street.

The IOOF building shown above housed the Eckerd’s Drug Store that opened in 1949.  Sears was located here until the new Sears and Roebuck building was constructed on the corner of West Fourth and Broad Street.

The IOOF  lighted sign, announcing Salem Lodge No. 36, is shown hanging from the right side of the building.
