October 18,1968: Refurbished Winston Theatre Opens

The Winston Theatre opened on West Fourth Street in 1949, designed by well-known theatre architect Earle Stillwell of Hendersonville.  The modern theatre seated 1,000 people and featured the latest look in carpeting and lighting.

The theatre was remodeled and made its debut on this day in 1968.  The remodeling project included a new projection system and screen, and new furnishings.  It opened with the movie, Barbarella.
