May 20: Happy Birthday! Abner Alexander

Abner Alexander was born on this day in 1929, in Winston-Salem.  He graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School, Guilford College, and Wake Forest Law School.  He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

Abner was an Eagle Scout and a recipient of the Order of the Arrow.

Abner became a member of the North Carolina Bar Association in 1957, and was in private law practice until 1968.  He was a US Commissioner and a US Assistant Attorney.   He was elected Chief District Court Judge of  Forsyth District Court in 1968, and he retired in 1991.  He served as an emergency judge in North Carolina until 2007.

Abner was active in civic organizations, such as the Exchange Club, the Masons, and the Ardmore Community Club.  He served as president of the North Carolina District Judges.

He was also active in Ardmore Methodist Church, serving in many capacities.

The Honorable Abner Alexander passed away in 2012.
