Winston-Salem Mayor, Allen Joines, was born on this day in 1947, in Wilkes County.
He graduated from Appalachian State University, and earned his M. P. A. from the University of Georgia. He was hired as assistant to the City Manager in 1971.
Some of the other positions he held in city government were Director of Evaluation, Public Safety Coordinator, Director of Development, and Deputy City Manager.
In 2000, Mayor Joines retired from the City of Winston-Salem to become President of the Winston-Salem Alliance.
He was elected to the position of Mayor of Winston-Salem in 2001, and is currently serving his fourth term.
Mayor Joines has held positions in many community organizations. For his work in these organizations, he has received awards and recognition over the years.
