Sears Roebuck and Company announced in a full-page newspaper ad that the new customer parking lot was open.

The new parking lot, with room for 250 more cars, was celebrated by a Grand Opening Sale on this day in 1959.

Featured in the newspaper ad is a 7-piece brass fireplace ensemble for $29.88, a porcelain enamel tub with vitreous china lavatory and toilet for $119, and a self-propelled rotary lawn mower with 4-cycle engine for $89.  Probably the biggest draw for the sale was the 53-piece Craftsman socket set for $29.88.

The sale was announced on a Thursday, just in time to stock up on tools for those weekend home projects.
