May 9: Happy Birthday! Margaret Stockton Coyner

Margaret Stockton Coyner was born on this day in 1900, in Winston-Salem.  She was the daughter of Madison and Martha Stockton.

Margaret graduated from Winston-Salem High School in 1918, and attended Converse College and Maryland College, specializing in music.

She was a charter member of the Winston-Salem  Junior League.  She worked as a volunteer nurse’s aid during World War II, and was awarded a commendation for her service.  She was active in many areas of church work at Centenary Methodist Church.

Margaret’s husband, Jule Spach, died in 1933. She later married Stratton Coyner.

Margaret passed away in 1977.
