April 18,1943: WSJS Has New Transmitter

On this day in 1943, WSJS radio brought into service its 5,000-watt transmitting plant at Old Town.

The photo above at left shows a close-up view of the base of one of the towers.  The small wooden structure houses the antenna coupling apparatus which links the transmitter proper to the towers.

The photo at right is the WSJS transmitter station on Bethania Station Road.

The new transmitter will replace the station’s present 250-watt transmitter on Salem Creek.
