FJ.14862c

Julius Clay Kreeger was born on this day in 1870, in Forsyth County, to John Wesley and Carolina Shore Kreeger.

He attended the Bethania Academy, and taught school in Forsyth and Stokes Counties for five years.  He worked at King for ten years for L. E. Grabs and Sons, general merchandise and limber business.  He was secretary of the Grabs Manufacturing Company.

He was married first to Betty Rominger and second to Minnie Phillips.

Julius served in the North Carolina Legislature for Stokes County in 1903.  Then, he came to Winston-Salem and began his long, 36-year career, with the Postal Service.

He held several positions in the Postal Service, and advanced to assistant postmaster.  He retired at age 70 in 1940.

During his retirement, he was able to devote more time to the genealogy of his family, and made significant progress in the years preceding his death in 1959.

The photo above was made in 1938 during an observance of National Air Mail Week.  Appropriately, Mr. Kreeger is standing beside a bag of mail, in front of an airplane.
