October 5,1941: Inauguration of Sunday Movies

Movies began showing in Winston-Salem theatres on this Sunday in 1941.

The reason for beginning to show movies on Sunday was to provide a means of entertainment for the servicemen stationed in town.  Movie theatres were traditionally closed on Sunday.
