August 18: Happy Birthday! Thomas Edward Johnson Sr.

Thomas Edward Johnson Sr. was born on this day in 1883, in Forsyth County,  to John and Mary Crouse Johnson.

He attended the local schools, and was married to Elizabeth Burke in 1910.

Johnson was a partner in the realty firm of T. E. Johnson & Sons, which was founded in 1928.  He was a member of  the Winston-Salem Board of Realtors.

He was a charter member of the board of directors of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association, and served as president of the organization from 1939 to 1953.

Johnson served as a member of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, and was chairman of the Forsyth County Tax Equalization Board.

Johnson was a charter member of Trinity Moravian Church, where he served as Sunday School superintendent for several years and as chairman of the finance committee.

Johnson passed away in 1957.
