July 19,1941: Scrap Aluminum Campaign

On this day in 1941, an aluminum parade kicked off the city’s scrap aluminum campaign.  The campaign will run for a week and is being sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Metal collection bins were installed all over the county to collect metal items to aid the national defense.

The photo above shows one of the collection bins that was set up on the Fourth Street side of the Courthouse.
