On this day in 1931, the Belk Stevens Department Store opened on the corner of North Trade and Fifth Streets.
The business operated in Winston-Salem for 15 years before moving to this location.
Frank Stevens was part owner of the local store. G. L. Byerly was the store manager at the time of the relocation.
Belk remained in this location until Hanes Mall opened, and the business moved to the mall.
