April 29: Happy Birthday! James Gray Walker Jr.

James Gray Walker Jr. was born in Winston-Salem, on this day in 1916, to James G. and Ada Pfaff Walker.  He graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School.

He was president of Walker’s Florist, which was started by his parents about 1920.

Walker served in the U. S. Navy as a flight instructor.

He was a member of several community organizations, such as the Salem Masonic Lodge, Winston-Salem Lions Club, Ardmore Community Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Retail Merchants Association.  He was also active in professional associations, and was president of the North Carolina State Florist Association.

Walker passed away in 1981.
