February 2, 1920: New Hotel Planning Committee Meets

Robert E. Lee Hotel

An article in the Twin City Sentinel announced  at a planning meeting of the new hotel committee, that the name  selected for the hotel was “The Huntley,” in honor of B. F. Huntley, chairman of the committee.  Mr. Huntley thanked the committee for this consideration, but asked that another name be submitted.

Another name was submitted, and the new hotel was called the Robert E. Lee Hotel.  It opened in 1921 on West Fifth Street, between Cherry and Marshall Streets.  The hotel was enlarged in 1929, and it was imploded in 1972.
