January 25, 1910: New Owens Drug Company

FJ.04301

On this date: January 25, 1910.  The announcement of the new Owens Drug Company appeared in the Winston-Salem Journal.  The store was located on Third near Main Street, beside Wachovia Bank, and had been expanded from the previous store.  The new features included handsome tiled floors and two beautiful Iceless Soda Fountains.  The soda fountains were made of genuine cherry wood and were located at each entrance, one on Third Street and the other on Main Street.  In fact, the advertisement encouraged the reader to use the store as an “arcade” to go from Main to Third Street,  a cut-through to save steps and be inside longer in the winter weather.

The advertisement also praised the pharmacy department, under the direction of M. S. Morrison and Julius Eldridge, as being accurate and prompt.

P. J. Brame was the president of the company.
