January 7, 1940: New Motorcycles for the Police Department

On this date: January 7, 1940. The Winston-Salem Journal featured the announcement that five new motorcycles were purchased for its motorcycle police officers. The new motorcycles are two-cylinder Harley Davidson models, which replace the four-cylinder Indians.

The policemen are: Paul T. Ayers, Ray E. Marshall, Henry C. Carter, T. Wilson Heath, and Ralph G. Simpson.
