November 5: Happy Birthday! Myra Gardner Pearce

Myra Pearce

Myra Gardner Pearce was born on this day in 1915, in Johnston County, to Jonas Bailey and Mary Elizabeth Gardner.

Myra was married to Bronnie Clifton Pearce.  They started the first diaper service in North Carolina in 1943.  The business was called Dy-dee Supply Company and it was located on Waughtown Street.  They provided diaper service for local residents and for hospitals.

Myra also worked with Mary Eisenhower at Interiors by Eisenhower.

Myra had six brothers and sisters.  The youngest child in the family was Ava Gardner, the Hollywood film star.  Ava visited Myra and her family in Winston-Salem, and she even came to her niece’s class at Wiley School to talk with the students.

Myra passed away in 2005.
