An announcement in the Winston-Salem Journal on this day in 1905, alerted citizens to plans for a new Masonic Temple.

An article, accompanied by a drawing of the building, described the new structure that would be built on the corner of West Fourth and Trade Streets.  The building was planned to be five stories tall, on a plot of land 60 x 90 feet.  The cost of the building was estimated to be $50,000.

The article also mentioned that $30,000 has already been secured, and the remainder will be obtained by bonding the property.

The building was completed in 1907, and the cost was $82,000.   By 1921, it was estimated that the property was worth $100,000.

Many businesses occupied the Masonic Temple over the years.  It was demolished in 1927 to construct a Walgreen’s Drug Store.
