August 24,1922: Peddycord Service Station Opens

Peddycord Service Station

On this day in 1922, the Peddycord Service Station opened.  The station was located at 115 West Third Street, between Trade and Liberty Streets.

The station occupied the building that was recently vacated by Booe and Ogburn.

Booe and Ogburn relocated one block away, at the corner of Trade and Third Streets.

J. R. Bolling with his motorcycle business was located next door to Peddycord, and next to Bolling was the Winston-Salem Tire and Rubber Company.

The business was operated by brothers Grady, Carl and Paul Peddycord.

Services provided at the station were gasoline, oil, car washing and greasing.  In fact, their motto was “Service.”  Grady Peddycord was in charge of the service department.

The Peddycords were owners of an auto taxi service, and this business also moved to the new location.
