The Rt. Rev. Thomas A. Fraser was born in Atlanta in 1915. He attended public schools in Brooklyn, N. Y. He studied for a year at the University of Jena in Germany, and graduated from Hobart College in Geneva, N. Y.
He received a bachelor of divinity degree from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1941.
He came to Winston-Salem as the rector of St. Paul ‘s Episcopal Church in 1951. He was bishop coadjutor from 1960 to 1965, and bishop from 1965 to 1983.
During his time as bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, he was involved in establishing programs for the hungry and the abused, prison reform programs, soup kitchens, and rehabilitation programs for drug and alcohol users.
He retired in 1983, and passed away in 1989.
