John Paul Hoffman was born on this day in 1894, in Virginia, to John T. and Laura Hoffman.
He came from a large family, with many brothers and sisters. He settled in Winston-Salem in 1924 and worked as an automobile mechanic at the family business, Hoffman Brothers. The automobile repair and sales business was located at 2608 N. Liberty Street, and was operated by four of the Hoffman brothers. In addition to John Paul, the business included R. B., C. M., and Fred Hoffman.
Paul lived on S. Green Street with his sister, Ruth Hoffman.
In August 1928, a can of gasoline ignited in the garage, and Paul was badly burned, and later died from his injuries.
