April 14,1936: Camp Betty Hastings Named

Camp Betty Hastings

The announcement was made on this day in 1936 that the new YWCA camp will be named Camp Betty Hastings.

The name was recommended by Fred S. Hutchins, donor of the land, and was approved by the Board.

Also, the Board announced that the main camp building will be named Hutchins Hall.

The camp was named for Mrs. Hastings in sincere appreciation for her untiring efforts to obtain a permanent camp for the YWCA.  These efforts had been in progress for a decade.

An announcement was also made concerning the staffing of the camp, and rates for attending the camp.
