XX.00346.03

Kathleen Hall was born in High Point in 1891.  After college, she began her teaching career at Thomasville, from 1913 to 1924.

Her next teaching position was in 1924 at Forest Park, then she transferred to Gray High School when it opened six years later.  She became a mainstay at Gray High School, and retired from there in 1957.

After retirement from the Winston-Salem schools because of her age, she worked 10 additional years in Stokes County.  And after her retirement from Stokes County schools, she worked as a substitute teacher.

Miss Hall was honored in 1976 when a new school was named in her honor, Hall-Woodward School.  She was the first public school teacher in Winston-Salem to have a school named for her.  The school was also named for Julius Woodward, a principal at Gray High School, and Miss Hall’s “boss.”

According to Miss Hall, she never wanted to be a principal, and always wanted to be in the classroom.  She taught a total of 53 years.  Miss Hall passed away in 1983.

I just came across this post from 2014. Kathleen Hall was our ‘other grandmother’ and lived with my grandparents throughout their marriage, and with my ‘gran’ until her death.
