XX.00350.1

Barber Printing Company announced on this date in 1911 that the company is expanding, but they will be located at the same address.  The two-story brick addition to the building at 207-209 West Third Street should be ready for occupancy in about five days, according to the owner, Edgar Barber.

The additional room will provide more space for printing machinery, plus a composing room, a room for folding and mailing, and an enlarged stock room for storing a larger stock of paper.  There will be concrete floors in the new addition, to handle the extra load needed for the printing machinery.

Barber Printing Company moved often in the years it was in business in Winston-Salem.  It was also located on Trade and Liberty Streets, plus another location on West Third Street.  The last listing for the business in the city directories was in 1931.  But, in 1936, a company named Markland-Barber Printing Company was located at 205 West Third Street, owned by  G. Ernest Markland, G. Edward Markland, and Edgar F. Barber.  By 1940, the business had dropped Barber from its name.  And in 1942, there is no listing for Markland Printing.
