James A. Pickard was born in 1881 in Davidson County. Before he established a confectionery business in Winston-Salem, he worked for the Post Office and was in the grocery business.
The confectionery business started in 1917 and was located at 210 N. Main Street. At the time the business began, it was located across from the Zinzendorf Hotel.
Pickard passed away in 1945.
