Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Winston-Salem received its charter on this day in 1916.  The Rotary Club was the city’s first civic luncheon club.  A special dinner meeting was held on February 5th at Forsyth Country Club to read the charter and introduce five new members, making a total of 32 members.  The Winston-Salem organization was the 199th club of the International Association of Rotary Clubs.

Dr. Douglas M. Young wrote an extensive history of the Rotary Club, titled Morobullia: Seventy-five Years of Winston-Salem Rotary.  This books provides details of the founding of the club, plus members and events during the first 75 years.  Copies of this book are available for reading and checking-out at the Forsyth County Public Library.
