August 8,1941: Groundbreaking for Strong Dorm

Strong Dorm

On this day in 1941, ground was broken for the new dormitory at Salem College.

Money for the dormitory was given to the school by Mrs. Hattie Strong.  It will house 40 students, and will provide a residence for Mrs. Strong.

The new building was designed by Northup & O’Brien.

Mrs. Strong also provided the money for the dining hall at Salem College.  And, she gave money for many schools.  She lived in Salem for the remainder of her life.
