April 8, 1936: New Marble for Post Office Lobby

FJ.06790

An announcement was made on this day in 1936 that Tennessee marble has been chosen to be used throughout the lobby of the new post office.  The marble that is in the lobby now will be torn out and replaced with the new marble from the Gray Knox Marble Company of Knoxville.

The new marble is to be a rich tan color.

The marble on the floors will be replaced with terrazzo floors.

The photograph shows the interior of the Post Office in 1974.

Today, the building is called the Millennium Center.
