Edwina Lockett was born in Winston-Salem in 1890 to E. L. and Mary Everett Lockett. She grew up in an impressive house at 619 West Fifth Street.
She was a graduate of Hollins College, and worked as a reporter for the Winston-Salem Journal and Sentinel for a number of years.
Edwina married Carl Abele, and they lived in Cincinnati. She was a member of the National League of American Pen Women, and served as president of the Cincinnati and the state association of the club.
Edwina later wrote about her memories of growing up in the house on West Fifth Street, titled “Just a Memory.”
Edwina passed away in Cincinnati in 1972.
