Jack Speros Kroustalis was born in Winston-Salem on January 7, 1932. He served as a medic in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
Kroustalis founded Foodcraft Equipment in 1960. The business was first located on Liberty Street, then moved to Stratford Road where it resided for many years. Kroustalis retired in 2000 after 40 years of service.
He had a passion for growing grapes and planted a vineyard in Lewisville in 1972. Then, in 1988 he opened Westbend Vineyards as the first bonded winery in Yadkin County.
He also enjoyed traveling and taking time to examine the European vineyards.
Mr. Kroustalis died in 2006.
