In the 1960’s my mom would take my sister and me shopping downtown to Mother and Daughter Store for school clothes. My aunt purchased her wedding gown from there as well. Forward to 1972. I worked there as a sales clerk. The cash register was probably from the Mayflower ship.(ha ha) When I needed change for the register, I would send a cylinder thru a tube connecting the sales desk to the office on the 2nd floor above. They would then return the cylinder with the change needed. Even then I appreciated the beauty and quirks of the store.
