May Feast: Butterscotch Squares

These delicious butterscotch squares are sweet and filled with nuts.  Savor them as a snack or as a sweet ending to a delicious meal.

Butterscotch Squares

Ingredients:

1 stick butter, softened

1 cup dark brown sugar, firmly packed

1 cup self-rising flour

1 tsp. vanilla flavoring

1 egg

1 cup nuts (pecans or English walnuts), chopped and toasted

Directions:

Mix in the order given. Spread into an 8×8-inch greased baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Squares are done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.  Do not overcook.

Note: Can also use a 9×9-inch pan and cook for 20 minutes.
