November 13,1940: Salem College Hits the Radio

An announcement was made in the Winston-Salem Journal on this day in 1940, concerning the first in a series of radio programs about Salem College.  The radio programs were designed to acquaint the people of Winston-Salem and vicinity with the work being done by various departments of Salem College and Academy.

The programs were scheduled to begin the following evening, and would also feature interesting activities of campus organizations.

The first broadcast would begin with an introductory message to friends and alumni by Dr. John Downs of the Salem College faculty.
