June 23,1911: Winston Printing Company Incorporated

Winston Printing Company was incorporated on this day in 1911, and the charter was recorded in Raleigh the following day.

The company was located in the Starbuck Building at 240 North Liberty Street.  The photo above shows the building at this location in 1918.  In 1927 the company moved to 413 North Main Street, next to the Downtown Garage.

In 1918, the president and manager of the company was Alexander Gray Gordon.  W. L.  Harper was secretary and treasurer.

The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011, having changed their name earlier to Winston Packaging.

Alexander Gordon’s son, John Russell Gordon,  followed his father as company president in 1953.  And his son, James Andrew Gordon, became company president in 1984.  Russell Lindsay Gordon, son of James, is the fourth generation to work in the business.

In 1979, the company moved to its present location at 8095 North Point Boulevard.  The company continues to seek new markets and upgrade its equipment to stay current with the latest technology.
