Mary Worth Walker Ferguson was born on this day in 1921, in Forsyth County, to W. Worth and Rosa Yokely Walker.
She attended the local schools and graduated from Salem College. She earned her master’s degree in education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Mary began her teaching career in 1949 at Oak Summit School, teaching first grade.
She was a member of the Association of Classroom Teachers, the National Education Association, and the North Carolina Association of Education. She was elected president of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Unit of the N. C. Classroom Teachers Association in 1964.
Mary was president of the Winston-Salem Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international teachers sorority, and was elected state vice president of Alpha Delta Kappa in 1976.
She taught Sunday School at Oak Summit United Methodist Church for 30 years, and she was active in other areas of the church as well.
Mary married Robert Blake Ferguson, and she passed away in 1979.
