An old clock was installed in the new belfry of Calvary Moravian Church, and it was dedicated on this day in 1928.
The old clock was no stranger to the thousands of downtowners who relied on its four clock faces to keep them informed with the current time. In fact, the clock spent its early career installed high above the downtown streets in the Winston Town Hall.
When the building was scheduled for demolition, the clock was sold and removed, then installed in Calvary’s new belfry. To better see the clock faces, they were illuminated with a glass dial.
W. H. Peterson was in charge of winding the clock on a weekly basis when it was in the Town Hall, and he would continue in this task.
Today, the clock keeps residents informed as to the correct time, and it has been modernized so that it runs with electricity.
