Charles Moses Thomas was born on this day in 1864, in Davidson County, to Newton and Sarah Waggoner Thomas.
He spent his early life in Davidson County, and moved to Winston-Salem about 1890.
Charles was the owner and manager of C. M. Thomas & Company, and was a successful ice and coal dealer.
His business was consolidated with the Crystal Ice and Coal Company. He later organized the City Fuel and Construction Company which he operated until about 1938.
Charles served as alderman for the city in his younger years, and he was a member of the police commission.
Charles was a charter member of the Winston-Salem Civitan Club and a member of the Junior Order. He was an active member of Centenary Methodist Church and served as a steward for more than 55 years.
He was married first to Annie Perryman and second to Bessie Perry.
Charles passed away in 1953.
