James Richard Pleasants was born on this day in 1854, in Wake County, to J. R. and Annie Jones Pleasants.
He married Laura O’Daniel on October 6, 1875, which was his 21st birthday. His wife, Laura, was also 21 years old, and her birthday was in March.
Pleasants worked for the Southern Railway, and he was still employed by the company on his 71st birthday, although his duties were lighter than when he was younger.
Mr. and Mr. Pleasants celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, and J. Richard’s 71st birthday, in 1925 with an open house at their home. At that time, they were the only charter members of Grace M. E. Church who were also current church members.
Pleasants passed away in 1926.
