On this day in 1922, the Winston-Salem Journal announced the formation of Forsyth Furniture Lines, Inc.

This company was formed from the merger of three companies: Forsyth Dining Room Furniture Company, Forsyth Chair Company, and Forsyth Manufacturing Company.

I have a set of rocking chairs with partial tag (Forsyth chair company.) I’m trying to date these chairs. Seem to have horse hair in seats. Do you know who or where I could go to research these?

    • Jonathan, Apparently Forsyth Chair Company was around before 1922, when it merged with two other companies. If you want to see how far it goes back, you can check the Winston-Salem City Directories to see when it appears in the directories. They can be found online. However, that only tells you when the company started. You need to speak with a furniture historian who will know about styles of furniture, and possibly other features, such as materials used on the chairs.
