On Easter Sunday, April 20, 1930, Winston-Salem was treated to an event that had not occurred before. The Easter Sunrise Service was broadcast on WSJS Radio.
The station’s first broadcast was on the previous Sunday, for the Men’s Bible Class at Home Moravian Church.
The strong voice of Bishop Edward Rondthaler could be heard over the airwaves as he presided over the familiar service, as he had done for many years. This was the last Easter Sunrise Service that was led by Bishop Rondthaler, for he passed away early in 1931.
The photograph above shows Dr. Rondthaler on the steps of Home Moravian Church.
