Jeanne “Jan” North Hill was born on this day in 1959, the daughter of William and Jeanne Hill. She was a 1977 graduate of R. J. Reynolds High School. She graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in 1981.
She worked for Aon Corporation, and retired from there in 2006.
Jan and her mother were known for playing the role of Miss Liberty at many of the Winston-Salem Symphony’s events. Jan was the founding sponsor for the Discovery Concerts for Kids series.
Following her death in 2012, she left a bequest to the Winston-Salem Symphony of $1.6 million. This was the largest single gift in the symphony’s 66-year history.
