On this date in 1960, Mayor Marshall Kurfees raised the All-America City flag in front of City Hall to commemorate the event at which Winston-Salem was recognized as an All-America City for 1959. The application that resulted in the award for the city emphasized teamwork in eight current city projects.
Dr. Dale Gramley, of Salem College, made the city’s presentation before the review committee. Winston-Salem was awarded two designations as an All-America City.
