Charlotte Preston was born in Stokes County in 1818. She was married at (almost) age 15 in 1832 to John Lewis. She and her husband had 11 children. Her husband died in 1875.
She lived in Stokes and Forsyth Counties, then after her husband’s death she lived in Arkansas and Texas before returning to Winston-Salem, where she lived to the age of 98. When she died in 1916, after being ill for only two months, she was survived by 4 children, 30 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren, and 56 great, great-grandchildren.
