Was your first airplane flight on a Piedmont airplane? Can you remember the look of the airplane, what the stewardesses wore, the food service, and other appointments on the airplane? If your memory of an early flight on a Piedmont Airlines airplane is fuzzy, come see the new exhibit for the North Carolina Collection that features Piedmont Aviation.
The exhibit cases are filled with photographs, artifacts, documents, and models from the archives of the Piedmont Aviation Historical Society.
Do you remember when smoking was permitted on the airplane, and not in just the last rows? Round containers of Piedmont Airlines matches and personalized glass ashtrays are physical reminders of this time period.
There are several model airplanes on display, including one that shows the interior of the airplane.
Piedmont Aviation had many long-serving employees. One exhibit features the service pins for the employees.
The exhibit will be on display through the end of April. Come visit the North Carolina Collection (formerly called the North Carolina Room) at the Forsyth County Public Library and reminisce as you recall the history of this homegrown Winston-Salem business.
