Reverend Jacquelin (Jick) Plummer Taylor Jr. was born on this day in 1897, in Winston-Salem, to Jacquelin P. and Sarah Marshall Taylor.
He attended the local schools and graduated from Winston High School. In high school, he was a member of the school’s, and Winston’s, first football team.
He entered Davidson College, but withdrew to serve in World War I. He was discharged from military service as a first lieutenant, and completed his college education, graduating from Davidson College in 1921. Following Davidson, he attended Union Theological Seminary, and graduated in 1930.
Reverend Taylor was a Presbyterian minister who served churches in Yadkin and Stokes Counties, Miami, Alabama, and Kentucky.
He retired from the ministry in 1950 due to declining health, and came to Winston-Salem to live.
Reverend Taylor was married to Anna Deane Taylor, and he passed away in 1959.
