Dr. Everett A. Lockett was born on this day in 1880, in Winston-Salem, to Edward Lafayette and Mary Everett Lockett.
He attended the local schools and graduated from the University of North Carolina where he studied an academic course and medicine. He studied medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital at Philadelphia. He served a portion of his internship at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York, and did post-graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.
He worked as surgeon at the Pennsylvania Railroad Hospital, then came to Winston-Salem to practice medicine.
Dr. Lockett volunteered for service in World War I and was commissioned a captain in the medical service. He was later commissioned a major and was in charge of the surgical service at Camp Sheridan in Alabama.
He was a member of several medical associations, and was a member of the staffs at both the City and North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
He was a charter member of Clyde Bolling Post of the American Legion and served one term as commander of the post.
He was elected county physician by the board of county commissioners in 1923. He was given charge of institutional work, such as the county home, tubercular hospital, convict camps, and reformatory.
Dr. Lockett was married to Annie Lindsay, and he passed away in 1934.
