The long-awaited Moravian Home was opened and began receiving residents on this day in 1972. An open house for the new facility was held in January 1973.
The new Moravian Home on Indiana Avenue consisted of 42 private rooms and 10 infirmary beds. There were living, dining and kitchen facilities, a trading post, craft-therapy rooms, a beauty-barber shop, tenant storage rooms, and a post office.
Cottage homes and apartments, plus a community and fitness center, were added over the years. The name of the facility was changed to Salemtowne, with a new entrance off Bethabara Park Boulevard.
