Some of the town’s dignitaries turned out for a special guest on this day in 1954. Baseball player, Jackie Robinson, and his wife, came to Winston-Salem.
The occasion for his visit was to attend the Winston-Salem State University’s homecoming.
The men greeting Robinson and his wife (at center) at the airport are E. L. Patterson, Dr. F. L. Atkins, Mayor Marshall Kurfees, and Sheriff Ernie Shore.
